Friend of ONE, Angélique Kidjo just WON the Grammy for Best World Music Album for her collaboration with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and Gast Waltzing!

And what an amazing acceptance speech. Check it out:

”Africa is on the rise. Africa is positive. Africa is joyful. Let’s get together and be one through music and say no to hate and violence through music. Thank you.”

Benin-born Angélique is a member of ONE’s Africa Policy Advisory Board, a team of great minds who come together to discuss the pressing issues facing the continent and play a key role in informing ONE’s work across Africa.

She also travels the world as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to raise awareness of the importance of girls’ education and help eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary schools. She is the co-founder of the Batonga Foundation, which gives scholarships to girls in Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mali and Sierra Leone.

Angélique believes that gender inequality in education must be tackled head-on, and we couldn’t agree more.

Another friend of ONE, 15-year-old Eva Tolage from Tanzania, is currently campaigning for access to water and electricity to benefit her education and improve the wellbeing of her community.
