The general election is here! The day many of us have been talking about for months has finally arrived – a pivotal moment on the path to ending extreme poverty…
The General Election, ending extreme poverty? What are you on about, I hear you ask?! Well, let me tell you.
Today, you are not just voting for your local MP and the next British government, you are voting for the people who are going to represent the United Kingdom, and our values, around the world. You are voting for people who have the potential to give millions of girls access to secondary education, to create tax systems that don’t allow millions of pounds to be syphoned out of developing countries through shady deals. You are voting for people who have the ability to lift 1.2 billion of people out of extreme poverty by 2030.
But, this will only happen if our candidates know it’s what we, as British Citizens, care about!
The last few months have been a whirlwind of action, with 32,000 people signing our petition, calling on candidates to Just Say Yes to ending extreme poverty. This is HUGE.
At last count, more than 500 parliamentary candidates have pledged to join the fight if elected, and it’s still not over! We need widespread support from your next local MP, from the next British Government and we need your help to get it.
Please use your voice today. With one click you can sign our petition, and we promise that one of the first things we will do after the election is deliver your signatures to the people in power.
