We know that educating a girl in the world’s poorest countries doesn’t just give her the opportunity to learn, it also gives her the chance to improve her health, wealth and gain independence! With an education, girls are also less likely to become child brides, experience violence or contract HIV — plus, educated moms are more likely to have healthier and better-educated children.
But, there are over 130 million girls out of school right now — that’s more than 130 million girls missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
We knew we had to take action, so we started our #GirlsCount campaign and set out to count all the way from 1 to 130,000,000. Luckily, we’ve had a little help along the way.
Last year, we were thrilled to partner with the Fossil Group to raise awareness about our #GirlsCount campaign!
This March, Fossil released a special edition #GirlsCount tote bag and not only donated 100% of the proceeds in support of ONE’s fight to get girls the education they deserve, but they matched each purchase made too.
They also recorded an incredible #GirlsCount video to spread the word that more than 130,000,000 girls are missing out on an education!
