Brazil ONE members: “We want to win the World Cup AND the fight against extreme poverty”

Our guest blogger today is Deise Oliveira, a ONE member from Brazil. She introduces us to some of the inspirational members there, and explains how it’s not just football that Brazilians are passionate about.

It’s true: ONE members in Brazil are so excited about the World Cup, but what we really love is the idea of keeping the whole country together. With hearts beating at the same rhythm to motivate our team to keep going, this idea encourages us to do much more because together we are stronger and can win battles that you might think are impossible.

We all got to know about ONE through Bono and his effort to show the world that there are so many people living in extreme poverty, and everyone can help do something about it. Extreme poverty and sustainable development are issues that really grab our attention.

Here’s what motivates some other ONE members from Brazil to campaign with ONE:

I enjoy being a ONE member because I believe the world doesn’t have boundaries and each human being counts, no matter where they live. ONE taught me that people aren’t statistics and we must care about each other. If you aren’t ONE of us yet – come and join us now! We need you to spread the news that a fair world is possible and we can (and should) “hammer it into shape”.” Eliane Lima – São Paulo, Brazil

“Becoming a ONE Member meant a lot to me! I met many nice people working for a common purpose, gaining nothing else than satisfaction of helping people” Íris Araújo, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

“It is never too late to help. We can help people with a simple act hidden from most others, or with a big action in front of millions of eyes. It does not matter how. Helping others is something that gives comfort to our soul. Even from far away we can make a difference.” Fernanda Alves – São Paulo, Brazil
