ONE Welcomes Appointment of Dr Mohammed Ali Pate as new CEO of GAVI

Ottawa ON,

Global anti-poverty organization, ONE, responded to news released today that Dr Mohammed Ali Pate was appointed CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Dr Pate will assume the role as of 3 August 2023, replacing Dr Seth Berkley, who will step down after 12 years leading the Alliance.

Gayle Smith, CEO of The ONE Campaign, said: “Congratulations to Dr Mohammed Ali Pate as he takes the reins at Gavi. The last three years have shown the critical importance of strong leadership on global health.

“Dr Pate’s record transforming the Nigerian primary healthcare system, as Senior Health Specialist at the World Bank Group and as Professor at Duke University’s Global Health Institute speaks to the depth of his experience. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Gavi to combat preventable disease under his leadership.

“We also want to voice our deepest thanks to Dr Seth Berkley. Not only did he help Gavi go from strength to strength but he also stood up to the task when Ebola hit and during the COVID-19 pandemic.  We look forward to his next chapter in a long career driven by his commitment to global public health.”
