The Better Utilization of Investments Leading to Development (BUILD) Act will help billions of private sector dollars flow into Africa by making it easier for American entrepreneurs to do business there. These investments help build infrastructure, increase first-time access to electricity, and create jobs.
The act brought Republicans and Democrats together on Capitol Hill. It was introduced by Senators Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Representatives Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) and Adam Smith (D-Wash.).
Impact
The act will allow American entrepreneurs and investors to invest in Africa and help create more jobs and promote economic development.
It will bring US$30 billion in private sector dollars into the fight against extreme poverty.
What we did
- The bipartisan bill was backed by 78,000 petition signatures, which were hand-delivered to offices in every single state.
- We brought 19 ONE Campus leaders to Washington, D.C., for the 2018 Leadership Summit in July 2018. They held 54 lobby meetings to discuss the importance of passing the BUILD Act.
