This is how Canadians step up the fight against AIDS, TB and malaria

Join the fight against extreme poverty

Last month, we launched our Global Fund campaign, calling on Canadians to #StepUpTheFight in support of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

The Global Fund is the largest funder for programs to fight both malaria and TB, and the second largest for HIV/AIDS around the world. The organization’s effectiveness has helped save 27 million lives since its creation in 2002 and with adequate funding, this number can be an additional 16 million. This can be one of the best investments that Canada can make: contributing to ending AIDS, TB and malaria.

And Canadians across the country are stepping up to make sure that happens. Over 4200 Canadians have already signed up to send a postcard to the Minister of International Development, The Honourable Maryam Monsef, with a message asking for Canada to contribute $1billion to the fund in the next 3 years. That’s over 4200 postcards arriving at the Minister’s office in the next few weeks!

A huge shout out to our volunteers in Ottawa for helping us coordinate this huge task!

Hundreds more are handwriting postcards for the Minister as well. We sent out a postcard-writing kit to everyone who signed up, each kit containing blank postcards, and information about the Global Fund. Here’s our member Ella receiving her kit:

Canadians everywhere are getting their friends and family involved, and even turning it into a postcard writing party.

A special shout out as well to Linda, a ONE volunteer and English teacher in Montreal, who turned this into a fun activity for her students: advocacy and language learning, 2-in-1! Together, they sent 162 handwritten postcards to the Minister’s office.

Some are already in the mail and on their way to the Minister’s office on Parliament Hill.

It’s also not just individuals. Organizations like the GRAN and PARN are also stepping up the fight, handwriting postcards and delivering them in person to the Minister’s constituency office.

So many Canadians know that ending AIDS, TB and malaria is possible and they have spoken up. Add your voice to theirs and send a postcard to the Minister of International Development!
