On October 3rd, ONE Canada partnered with Afrifursa, the Black Founders Network, and Grand Challenges Canada to an inspiring VIP reception at the University of Toronto’s Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus. This special gathering was part of Afrifursa\u2019s Afri Tech Summit and brought together over 115 tech entrepreneurs, visionaries, and changemakers passionate about shaping the future of innovation in Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The energy in the room was palpable as the event kicked off with a dynamic panel discussion, moderated by Elise Legault, ONE\u2019s Canada Director. The panel featured influential leaders from the African diaspora, including Almaz Negash from the African Diaspora Network, Jean-Philbert Nsengimana, Rwanda\u2019s former Minister of Youth and ICT, and Adetunji Eleso of Grand Challenges Canada. Their powerful insights underscored the vital role the African diaspora plays in driving innovation and global change. From conversations about innovative solutions to challenges in healthcare, education, and economic development, the message was clear: the African diaspora is a catalyst for progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most anticipated moments of the event was a fireside chat between ONE\u2019s CEO, Ndidi Nwuneli, and Canada\u2019s Minister of International Development, Hon. Ahmed Hussen. Minister Hussen proudly reaffirmed Canada\u2019s steadfast support for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. He made it clear that Canada will continue to stand with Gavi during its replenishment efforts \u2013 but that\u2019s just the beginning. At ONE, we\u2019re committed to pushing for a strong, impactful pledge from Canada that reflects our fair share of global responsibility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Hussen\u2019s remarks also hinted at exciting policy shifts that could further strengthen Canada\u2019s partnership with Africa. His vision aligned perfectly with ONE\u2019s advocacy efforts: fostering equitable collaborations that place African leaders and innovators at the center of the conversation. Thanks to this event, we\u2019ve built even stronger connections that will help us push for meaningful Canadian investments in Africa and a real partnership based on collaboration and respect. The event left everyone inspired and reminded us that real progress is built on mutual respect and shared goals.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we move forward, the takeaway from this gathering is clear: Nothing for Africa without Africa<\/strong>. The solutions to global challenges must involve the voices, expertise, and leadership of the African continent. With this momentum, we are excited about the road ahead as we work together to ensure Canada plays a leading role in building a more just and equal world.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is just the beginning \u2013 we can\u2019t wait to continue the journey toward meaningful change.  Together, we can ensure that the partnerships we build today create lasting impacts for tomorrow.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
