G7 and EU leaders have agreed on a joint pledge of $2.75 billion ahead of the upcoming Global Partnership for Education (GPE) replenishment conference, far below the requested 70% ($3.5 billion) of the $5 billion ask.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the announcement, Edwin Ikhuoria, ONE Africa\u2019s Executive Director, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c$2.75 billion is a start, but G7 and EU leaders must go further. Having spent trillions in their own domestic COVID response, it\u2019s deeply concerning that they couldn\u2019t even fulfil the joint $3.5 billion ask to arrest the global learning crisis. Bolder and more ambitious pledges are urgently needed as the real race begins now, including from the UK as co-host of the replenishment.\u201d<\/p>\n
