As the new Global Goals\u00a0<\/strong>start to sink it, it is exciting to appreciate how they are linked to some wisdom that has been passed on for many generations through African proverbs. Here is a sneak peak in to some of my favourites!<\/p>\n

Goal 1: No Poverty \u2013 End poverty in all its forms everywhere<\/p>\n

Poverty is slavery.<\/em><\/strong> ~Somalian Proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 2: Zero Hunger\u00a0\u2013 End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Hunger is felt by a slave and hunger is felt by a king<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 African proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being \u2013 Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages<\/p>\n

Health is wealth.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 African proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 4: Quality Education \u2013 Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all<\/p>\n

Learning expands great souls.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Namibian Proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 5: Gender Equality\u00a0\u2013Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls<\/p>\n

Women are part of the origin of life\u2019s big mystery on earth; they know the secret of a good life.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Kuba Proverb<\/em><\/p>\n

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation \u2013 Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all<\/p>\n

Filthy water cannot be washed<\/em><\/strong>. \u2013 African Proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth \u2013 Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all<\/p>\n

By labor comes wealth.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Yoruba Proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 13: Climate Action\u00a0\u2013 Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts<\/p>\n

Do not call the forest that shelters you a jungle<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 African Proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 14: Life Below Water\u00a0\u2013 Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Where water is the boss there the land must obey.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 African proverb<\/p>\n

\"Fact<\/p>\n

Goal 16: Peace and Justice \u2013 Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels<\/p>\n

Peace is costly but it is worth the expense.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Kenyan proverb<\/p>\n

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals \u2013 Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development<\/p>\n

If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 African proverb<\/p>\n

Add your voice to the quest to end extreme poverty. Make poverty history by 2030, join ONE<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
