Senegal has long been considered a democratic beacon in Africa. The on-going riots are a test for the resilience of Senegal\u2019s democracy where clashes between police and protesters have turned violent.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of ONE, Edwin Ikhuoria the organisation\u2019s Africa Executive Director, said:<\/strong>
\n\u201cWith the escalating challenges in the horn of Africa, we have never needed President Macky Sall more to promote stability on the continent. This is the worst unrest to hit Senegal in a decade, and we will feel the ripple effects for years to come. The pandemic has already inflicted huge economic and social pains across the country but there can be no recovery without peace and justice\u201d<\/p>\n
