Youth voices for girls’ empowerment
What one big idea should African leaders adopt to harness the power of girls and transform all our futures?
130 million girls around the world are being denied an education – and 53 million of them are right here in Africa. Without an education, no child can reach their full potential. This has to change. That is why we asked 18-35 year olds from across the African continent to share their best ideas for how African leaders can make sure all girls count. How do we get every girl into school and learning? How do we make sure girls don’t face violence at home, in school or on the street? How do we enable girls to become the engineers, entrepreneurs and political leaders of tomorrow?

After rigorous selection and public voting, Nyeneokpon Ekanem from Nigeria’s idea of “Connecting The Unconnected” has been voted as the winning idea and he will be joining us in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to share his idea before African leaders on how to harness the power of girls.
Nyeneokpon’s big idea to get all African girls educated is to deploy virtual learning technology that will take formal education to their homes. “Women/girls constituting half the continent’s population must be connected to opportunities that will increase their relevance to Africa’s development.”
