DESCRIPTION OF SCOPE OF WORK 

The Consultant, Pan African Institutions, will work with the ONE Africa team to support ONE’s policy and advocacy work with Pan African institutions in Ethiopia. S/he will oversee cultivating strategic relationships with key African Union organs, United Nations institutions in Ethiopia, and relevant government institutions, influencing key political organs on key policy issues that advance Africa’s prosperity, including but not limited to global health, agriculture, economic and social justice, and transparency and accountability. S/he should be proficient in public policy and how to translate complex ideas to simple terms for various stakeholders. S/he will work closely with ONE’s Africa team to create campaigns and contribute to media activities. 

This is a one-year consultancy, renewable after 6 months and based on co-created deliverables. This role reports to the Africa Executive Director 

 Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Build and maintain key relationships with the Africa Union Commission, The UN Economic Commission for Africa, the Ethiopian government, and ambassadors accredited to the African Union for influencing and advancing development and growth policies  
  • Advocate for Africa’s development through ONE’s focus areas, specifically, economic development, health policy, and development finance.  
  • Work with other team members at ONE to prepare documents on specific policy issues, including briefing papers, policy analysis, campaign activities, blog posts, talking points, and press releases for key campaigns 
  • Provide insights into how the organisations work and how ONE can be positioned to advance Africa’s development on key areas through the Addis-based organisations.  
  • Ensure constant monitoring of key political decision-makers and political processes as well as reports relevant to ONE’s goals in the AU, UN, and other relevant government institutions.  
  • Draw on and liaise with ONE’s teams as required to ensure AU & UNECA policy and advocacy positions are represented in global discussions.  
  • Liaise with partners and like-minded organizations to ensure ONE’s goals are represented in general discussions, joint policy analysis, or advocacy tools  
  • Represent ONE at meetings and conferences on specific policy topics, as needed. 
  • Provide support for ONE’s young advocates programme in Africa. 

 Minimum Qualifications 

  • Degree in Economics, International Relations, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in international policy, global economic analysis, or diplomacy. 
  • Proven track record working with international organizations, PAN African Institutions such as the AU, or multilateral institutions. 
  • Proven experience in policy analysis and influencing systemic reforms at national and global levels.
