This year the ONE Campaign (ONE) in Africa celebrates over a decade of making an impact in the continent. Launched in 2013, ONE has made great strides to end extreme poverty and preventable disease by 2030. In marking this moment, the ONE Campaign Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Serah Makka as ONE‘s new Executive Director for Africa, effective February 1, 2023. Serah will bring her collaborative leadership style and commitment to the Africa team, and has a sterling record applicable to the role and vision for ONE in Africa.

Serah‘s previous roles at ONE include leading supporter engagement, and deepening the participation of people and citizens from all walks of life to act upon their agency to bend the world towards justice. She also previously led ONE‘s work in Africa‘s largest market, Nigeria. Prior to joining ONE, Serah worked in Afghanistan, the United States, and Nigeria providing solutions for the public and social sectors. Serah also holds a bachelor‘s degree in economics from the University of North Florida and a master‘s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Gayle Smith, CEO of the ONE Campaign, said: “The next chapter of the ONE Campaign in Africa and Africa in the ONE Campaign will be about building from our strengths, standing up for Africa‘s aspirations, and re-imagining our impact in a changing world. I‘m delighted that Serah will lead this effort, building on her experience at ONE, her smarts and dedication as an advocate and activist, and her deep commitment to building a world that is fair and just.”

Serah Makka, ONE in Africa Executive Director, said: “Africa‘s global geopolitical position is undeniable. I am excited to be taking the helm at ONE in Africa at this time. We will deepen our advocacy in Africa to reflect her position as a solutions provider of global challenges as we focus on ensuring our impact in advocating for policies that eliminate poverty and preventable diseases. We look forward to the next chapter of ONE‘s impact in Africa and thank all our partners, champions, and advocates for change for their continued support.”
