What an amazing journey it has been! Over 4,000 of you shared your incredible #GirlsCountCompetition ideas with us. We asked African youth between the ages of 18 and 35 from across the continent to share their best ideas for how African leaders can make sure all girls count. How do we get every girl into school and learning? How do we make sure girls don’t face violence at home, in school or on the street? How do we enable girls to become the engineers, entrepreneurs and political leaders of tomorrow?
We’ve heard from people from all walks of life and almost all the countries on the African continent as well as the African diaspora. We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to each and every one who submitted their ideas.
After rigorous selection and public voting, we are very excited to share that Nyeneokpon Ekanem from Nigeria’s idea of “Connecting The Unconnected” has been voted as the winner and he will be joining us in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to share his idea before African leaders on how to harness the power of girls.
Nyeneokpon’s big idea to get all African girls educated is to deploy virtual learning technology that will take formal education to their homes. “Women/girls constituting half the continent’s population must be connected to opportunities that will increase their relevance to Africa’s development.”
