2013 has been an incredible year at ONE.
We’ve seen big wins in several campaigns, helped change the way issues like overseas aid, agriculture and HIV / AIDS are perceived with our groundbreaking policy reports, and been astounded by the energy and unrelenting support from our 3 million members throughout it all.
So as we hurtle towards Christmas and 2014, we’re counting down our favorite moments of the year. Re-live the ones you were part of, or if you are new to ONE, see what we get up to and join us for exciting new challenges next year.
Each day we’ll open a new window so bookmark us and come back for your daily ONE fix. And make our Christmas by sharing your favorite moments on Facebook!
Day 1: Stash the Cash
Probably one of our most creative campaigns to date, ONE launched a fake money-laundering website to illustrate how easy it is for dodgy dealers to hide their illegal cash.
Day 2: Bono & Bill Clinton impersonate each other
ONE’s Co-founder Bono and former US president Bill Clinton had a bit of fun in New York City during UN General Assembly week in September. Bono seized a moment at a session at the Clinton Global Initiative to do his famous Bill Clinton impersonation – then Bill Clinton took the opportunity to give his friend Bono a good-natured taste of his own medicine. Watch Bill Clinton’s impersonation here.
Day 3: Photo Essay: Cell phone photos of daily life in Africa
Nearly 100 people were moved to comment on photo set of cell phone photos of daily life in Africa. The images go beyond what we see in standard media coverage, and you’ll notice an absence of crying children or camouflaged rebels with guns.View the full photo set here.
Day 4: Guess what this fellow is!
Nearly 1,000 ONE members tried to guess what this cartoon is. Can you figure it out?
Day 5: A big win against corruption
After months of hard campaigning in Europe, European leaders reached a deal in April that requires oil, gas, mining, and logging companies to publish the payments they make to governments. More than 162 000 petition signatures; more than 8000 postcards and countless handwritten letters and tweets all made sure our voices couldn’t be ignored.

Day 7: A Google Earth Tour of the World’s Most Corrupt homes
Come along for a virtual tour of some of the seized properties of disgraced politicians and company bosses. This post was one of our top-read pieces on ONE.org US, with more than 50 comments and 1,000 Facebook likes.

Day 12: Anne the Farmer
In partnership with One Acre Fund, we followed Anne, a smallholder farmer from Kenya, for a whole growing season. From planting to harvest, we checked in every month to see what life is really like for a farmer in rural Kenya. She has one more post in the series, so look out for it on ONE.org.
Day 13: UK announces record support to The Global Fund
Justine Greening made an announcement: Britain will give a potential £1 billion ($1.5 billion) to the Global Fund to support its work in the next three years. This is exactly the number that ONE members, and friends including Stop AIDS, Results and Malaria No More, asked her for.
Day 14: Bono introduces “factivism”
On February 26th, Bono spoke at TED to show the progress in the fight against extreme poverty… and what we need to do next. Bono shares the new facts about fighting global poverty: “Forget the rock opera, forget the bombast, my usual tricks. The only thing singing today will be the facts.” By becoming a “factivist,” we can learn what needs to be done to end extreme poverty within the next generation. Watch his full speech here.
Day 15: Liberia uses less electricity than Cowboys Stadium
This fact electrified football fans and bloggers all over the US.
