Wrapping up: Our HIV/AIDS campaign by the numbers

Wrapping up: Our HIV/AIDS campaign by the numbers

Kara Arsenault, who helped organize this past action against HIV/AIDS, reports on the results of the campaign. Last week, we wrapped up our big HIV/AIDS action around the International AIDS Conference. So this week, I did a little number-crunching to see just what our members helped achieve. Turns out the numbers are anything but little.

We need your votes!

We need your votes!

Two weeks ago, we threw out a big challenge: The Great GAFSP Challenge, in fact. In the lead-up to the G8, we wanted to pitch a new name for the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, affectionately known as GAFSP. Why? Because they wanted to give the G8 players a name or acronym that might

The Great GAFSP Challenge: Rename a global agriculture program

***UPDATE 4/5/2012: Voting start time and number of prizes have changed. See changes below.*** Ever wondered who came up with the name MDG? Well, that could be you… Acronyms. Here in the fight for global poverty, the acronyms often feel endless. GAVI. PEPFAR. And the problem is that people often don’t know what they mean.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Big Oil we won’t be bullied

It’s a super busy day around here. Why? Because today we’re launching a new campaign — and we’ve got lots for you to do. We actually gave you a sneak peek last week. Back in 2010, ONE members pushed Congress to pass the Cardin-Lugar Amendment. Remember that? The law says that all oil, gas and

Pres. Obama discusses foreign aid at Twitter town hall

I just finished listening to the first White House Twitter Townhall — and guess what I heard? President Obama talk about the importance of smart aid! But don’t take it from me. Read what he had to say for yourself: “I think it’s important for people to know that foreign aid accounts for less than

Tune in tomorrow at 2 PM ET live on Twitter: @townhall How does economic growth in #Africa impact growth at home? #AskObama @townhall Why does

13 minutes you just can’t miss

I seriously can’t believe Thanksgiving is only one week away. I’m usually pretty bad about taking time to reflect and be thankful, but that changed just 13 minutes ago. 13 minutes ago, I hit play on a stop-you-in-your tracks kind of video. It’s longtime ONE supporter Bob Geldof talking before a crowd of folks at

ONE Campus is back!

ONE Campus is back and better than ever! An effort that has traditionally rallied students around the ONE Campus Challenge, this year’s ONE Campus program will focus on integrating our campus outreach into ONE’s national advocacy and campaign goals. This means more collaboration across universities and more opportunities for students to acquire the hands-on advocacy

Bill Gates says lets focus on our success

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but Malaka and I just witnessed our last event on our last day in New York. And it was a great way to end. Sitting here in the press room at CGI, we first heard (very briefly) from President Obama, who introduced the First Lady. She talked very passionately

Lunch in NYC for $1.25

Over the past few days, Malaka and I have listened to world leaders, big thinkers, smart bloggers and some famous musicians talk a lot about the need to end extreme poverty. But we realized that while we’ve been here in bustling NYC, it’s sometimes been hard to visualize exactly what that means. So when it

Only good governance

So I gave you something great to watch this morning while you had your breakfast. And now I’ve got something great for you to read while you have your late afternoon snack. Tony Blair and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf co-authored a smart piece on governance, Africa and the MDGs for the Huffington Post –

President Obama: “American will partner with nations that offer their people a path out of poverty”

Just about an hour ago, I tuned in to hear President Obama address the UN General Assembly (his second big speech in two days). And while his words today didn’t just focus on the MDGs, he still hit on some really important themes. I thought I’d share a few excerpts that I particularly loved, and
