ONE Mamas

Use your voice on behalf of the world's poorest. | #ONEMOMS

ONE Moms is a movement of moms everywhere using their extraordinary power to spread awareness for the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease. These moms are leading a movement to promote education, engagement and activism on behalf of the world's poorest. Recently, we took 10 social media moms to Kenya as a first step in this effort, where these American moms met their African counterparts and experienced extreme poverty as told through the lens of a mother in Africa.

What's Next?

Drought is Inevitable. Famine is not: Right now, ONE is leading a campaign around investment in agriculture in the developing world. Moms will be an important part of educating the public and pressuring political leaders to fully fund assistance to the famine victims, and invest in smart long-term agricultural solutions so that this never happens again, because no mother should have to choose whether or no they should leave a dying child on the side of the road.
Advocacy in Your Community: Moms can make a global difference from right in their own community. In late October, the 10 ONE Moms bloggers will visit DC to lobby their elected officials to preserve the programs they saw in Kenya in the upcoming budget. Because all moms should be involved in advocating on behalf of the world's poorest, ONE Moms will host a day of advocacy that encourages all moms to do something - tweet, write a blog post, call your member of Congress, reach out to your community, volunteer with your local ONE group; anything to show your support for mothers in the world's poorest. We'll have a place where you can tell us what you did, and tools you can use to jump start your advocacy.
15 Posts to Help Get 15 Million on Treatment by 2015:: In the weeks leading up to World AIDS Day in November, ONE will be helping to raise awareness for World AIDS Day on December 1, 2011. For 15 days, we'll have 15 posts profiling people on the front lines of AIDS in Africa - from community health care workers to HIV/AIDS patients to doctors in rural African hospitals - all = to raise awareness to reach the goal of 15 million people on treatment by 2015.
12 Days of Change (Giving back Without a Check):: Rather than asking for a monetary donation during this holiday season, ONE asks you to take a moment of your time to donate your voice. ONE Moms will each post a small task that every mom can do to make a difference to those living in extreme poverty or suffering from a preventable diseases.
