Action: Urge your senators to support Energize Africa today

I’ve got some really big news. The Energize Africa Act was just introduced in the Senate.

Now we’ve got to get it passed – and help Africa bring electricity to 50 million people for the very first time.

Urge your senators to support the Energize Africa Act today.

The petition says:

Dear Congress,

Please help electrify Africa by supporting the bill that will provide 50 million people with access to electricity for the first time. This bill will transform people’s lives – and keep us on track to end extreme poverty by 2030.

You already know what it takes to get a bill passed. For almost a year, you sent letters, you made calls, you delivered petitions to your representative. And your voice was heard. The House passed the Electrify Africa Act in May.

Now let’s make some noise in the Senate.

The work has already started. The bill was introduced by Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senior Republican Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) just days ago. Sen. Coons, Sen. Markey, Sen. Isakson and Sen. Johanns, Sen. Durbin, Sen. Shaheen and Sen. Cardin have already signed on as co-sponsors.

And after getting hundreds of phone calls and thousands of emails from ONE members in their state, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has already passed the bill out of Committee. Up next? Passage in the full Senate.

You have the power to help make sure kids can read after the sun goes down. You have the power to help all moms give birth in well-lit hospitals. You have the power to help 50 million Africans get power for the very first time.

Thanks for your support.
