ONE was sad to learn of the passing of Peter D. Bell, a former Chairman of ONE, as well as former President and CEO of CARE.
Bell was the first Chairman of ONE, from 2004 to 2006, a formative stage for the organization.
“He was an incredibly gracious, thoughtful, elder statesman for the emerging coalition — someone who brought people together and really drove collaboration among the development community,” said Tom Hart, U.S. Executive Director of ONE. “He will be sorely missed, but he leaves a very rich and powerful legacy in the work that he did with so many organizations and causes.”
Bell spent ten years as President of Care U.S. He was a visiting fellow at the Carter Center, president of the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, senior associate of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, president of the Inter-American Foundation, and deputy undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, amongst other organizations.
He dedicated his life to fighting social injustice and extreme poverty, and to advancing human rights and peace. The Board, staff and members of ONE will remember him and mark his passing with sadness and gratitude for his work and service.
