Last week, ONE members from all over New England traveled to the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, on the campus of St. Anselm University to hear US Executive Director of ONE Tom Hart speak about the great work that the ONE does.
Tom spoke about the proud American legacy of providing relief in the developing world. Many Americans believe foreign assistance amounts to around 25 percent of the federal budget when in reality, it is less than 1 percent. That small percentage puts millions on life-saving medications and has lifted 1 billion people out of crushing poverty.
Tom told the crowd of eager listeners that while the gains we have made are impressive and something to be proud of, we must not lose momentum to a divisive political climate.
Mr. Hart also told the crowd about an exciting new initiative that ONE is supporting; an effort to bring over 50 million people in sub-Saharan Africa consistent electrical power. The bill in the House of Representatives, which has strong bipartisan support, is nearing a vote. A similar bill in the Senate is expected soon.
Sign the petition now and let your representatives know it’s time to electrify Africa.
