ONE CEO Michael Elliott briefs ONE members on our activities at the UN General Assembly next week.
Over the course of four days each year in mid-September, New York City plays host to presidents, prime ministers, global activists, business leaders and thousands of influential people from all around the world for the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and events like The Clinton Global Initiative and the Mashable Social Good Summit.
ONE senior staffers and I will be attending several events next week to engage world leaders and influentials – just as our ONE members do – on our work. The goal of our mission at UNGA is “factivism,” a term coined by Bono to describe our brand of fact-based activism in our drive to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030. This will be the thread weaving together all our events and activities in New York.
Giving feedback: I will be joining Sir Richard Branson and Melinda Gates as a Keynote Listener at the Mashable Social Good Summit. In this role, I will actively listen to what the audience has to say in creating a better world. I’ll then report these ideas to the audience after the event and share my own ideas on how we can amplify them. Sunday, September 22.
Showcasing the power of protest music: We’ll be hosting a panel on #Agit8, our protest music project, at the Social Good Summit moderated by the Mashable’s Founder & CEO Pete Cashmore. Our very own Jeff Davidoff will be joined on the panel by Spotify’s Kerry Steib and YouTube artist Christina Grimmie. The discussion will be followed by a live performance by Christina Grimmie. Sunday, September 22
Amplifying African voices: We’re bringing a group of leading African Factivists to New York during UN Week for an interactive conversation on the opportunities and challenges they face when using technology to turbo-charge public participation, transparency and accountability. Monday, September 23
But ONE’s senior staffers can’t spread our #Factivist mission without your help. Help us lay the foundation for a great UNGA Week by joining us this week for #Factivist Week. From today until Friday, September 20, we’ll showcase an action each day that asks you to learn, engage and share the facts to show it is possible to end extreme poverty by 2030.
Many of our actions will ask you to share something about #Factivism on social media, and it’s for a good reason. We want UNGA attendees to see that this special term has amazing support from our ONE members – and we want them to make sure it’s a word they don’t forget.
Mission No. 1? Share this Facebook post below or Tweet this message on Factivism now.
Check back to http://ONE.org/US/top-stories every day this week for a new action. We’re counting on you to spread the word on social media and show UNGA Week attendees that ONE members are behind us every step of the way.
