Top Wisconsin ONE vols talk energy poverty with Paul Ryan

ONE Congressional District Leader Lee Valentyn reports from Kenosha, Wis.

Top Wisconsin volunteer leaders Rick Baumann and Trevor Wiles and I met with Rep. Paul Ryan at his Kenosha office last week.

Rep. Ryan greeted us almost immediately after we arrived and was very hospitable.  The Congressman said he is familiar with ONE’s work and believes that the organization really approaches things the right way.  After talking briefly about Harley-Davidsons, Kid Rock and weddings, we turned our attention to the Electrify Africa Act, the bill that ONE members are currently working on getting passed in Congress.

Rep. Ryan said that shortly before the congressional recess, Rep. Royce, R-Calif., spoke with him about the bill, so he was happy to have the opportunity to learn more about it.  We asked for the Congressman’s support of the bill and answered as many of his questions as we could. We are thankful to Rep. Ryan and his staff for fitting us into his busy schedule and we look forward to working with his office again soon.

Didn’t get a chance to take action? Write a letter to your member of Congress asking to pass a bill to bring electricity to 50 million Africans for the first time!
