Because of you, I am ABLE to have hope for the future. To see that my children are proud of me. To feel pride in my work. Some powerful words resting on your shoulders. These are the words found on the hangtags of fashionABLE scarves.
We’ve written often about our love affair with fashionABLE, an organization that partners with Women At Risk to rehabilitate former sex workers, teaching them skills and providing them with training, child-care, counseling and a safe environment.

Last October, the ONE Moms visited fashionABLE’s factory in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and wrote passionately about the organization and it’s success in empowering women and creating jobs in the community. In fact, the reaction from the community was so swift that fashionABLE sold out by early December.
One of the most beautiful souls and biggest hearts I know, Gabrielle Blair, was on that trip to Ethiopia. Gabrielle understands the sisterhood of motherhood and the importance of women supporting women.

She invited ONE and fashionABLE to be part of a conference she produces with her sister Sara Urquhart. The Alt Summit is a premier business conference attended by innovators and entrepreneurs and some of the most creative designers around. Gabrielle and Sara proposed a fashionABLE ONE ALTSummit design challenge, asking ALT attendees to submit designs for a Mother’s Day scarf. More than 60 designs were submitted, 12 designs produced and four finalists chosen for the audience to vote on during the summit.
Voting took place through a new email-based app, Seesaw, that allows users to cast a vote by simply clicking on an image in an email. An email was sent to all of the attendees just after the four scarves were modeled for the audience. Everything about this project was amazing. Barrett and I were so inspired by the people we met, the ideas shared and the support within this community. It was inspiring to see so many designers excited to use their design talents to make a difference.
And today on April 4th, we announce the launch of an exclusive, limited edition ONE fashionABLE Mother’s Day Scarf. Designed by the Alt community and produced by fashionABLE employees in Ethiopia, the scarf is now for sale exclusively online at the ONE Store and fashionABLE. The scarf is gorgeous. More than that, the scarf is a collaboration between women in the US, Australia and Ethiopia.
The winning scarf was designed by Janette Crawford, the writer, curator and ONE member behind Fashion Loves People, an online pop-up shop and blog about ethical fashion for women, home and baby.
Please read Barrett’s beautiful post about The Genet Scarf and learn about the beautiful women in Ethiopia who make the scarves.
