Salsa music, South Florida weather, and helping save lives. What could be better? ONE was invited this past weekend to table at the 6th annual Salsa Fest in Greenacres, FL. The sounds of tropical salsa beats and tempting smells of Latin specialties sizzling on the grill did not distract us from our goal of making some noise for the world’s hungry and vulnerable. Our friends at Mia 92.1 FM were generous enough to let us use their booth, in a prime location to receive good exposure and foot traffic. Spirited festival-goers stopped by to sign our “Real lives, real risk” petition and many were bold enough to make calls to Senator Rubio’s office or write him a letter. Among the more colorful guests were the outrageously-dressed Chihuahua dogs entered in the Chihuahua costume contest. We were also visited by “royalty” when the recently crowned winner of Nuestra Belleza Hispana Palm Beach 2012 came by the ONE booth and signed the petition. All of these fun elements came together to create a uniquely South Florida event and a great opportunity for our grassroots movement to reach new members. Even our visiting ONE Regional Field Director from Chicago, Tzviatko, couldn’t help but dance for joy.
