Meeting John McCain again, and Jeff Flake for the first time

Senator John McCain was back home over the weekend to do a little campaigning with Congressman Jeff Flake, who is running for the open US Senate seat in Arizona. It’s certainly an honor (and has become a ONE Vote tradition) to say thanks to Senator McCain, and it was also a honor to meet Congressman Jeff Flake!

For those of you who aren’t following US Senate races closely, Congressman Jeff Flake from Arizona’s sixth congressional district is running for our open US Senate seat. Congressman Flake didn’t speak about our issues but we were grateful for the chance to introduce ourselves to him. We definitely look forward to continuing our conversation with the Congressman and his staff in the future about programs like PEPFAR.

The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was started by President George W. Bush in 2003 and is supported in a bi-partisan way. PEPFAR has not only saved over 3 million lives, up from on 50,000 in 2002, but this incredible US initiative has helped get us on track to ensuring babies in the womb are protected from contracting HIV. If we keep supporting smart, effective mechanisms like PEPFAR we can ensure virtually no child is born with HIV by 2015 – among many other things!

Thank you Senator McCain for your service to our country and being a friend of ONE. To Congressman Flake, we hope for the opportunity to share living proof solutions of how smart US investments are working.
