ONE members have been working hard over the past few months to get postcards and an online petition signed to demonstrate support around the country for international development, and last week we helped make sure that message was received in Connecticut.
I joined ONE volunteers in Rocky Hill, Conn., to deliver a copy of the petition that had been signed by hundreds of Connecticut residents, along with a stack of signed postcards, to Ben Marter, Communications Director for US Senate candidate and current US Representative Chris Murphy.
Ben said he was impressed at both the number of members ONE has in Connecticut and the number of signatures we had managed to gather. After looking through the stack of signatures, he made sure to highlight Rep. Murphy’s record of support for international development in the House and pledged that support would continue if he is elected to the Senate.
It was great to witness this example of hard work from ONE members paying off by helping to ensure the US continues to lead in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease around the globe. We will continue to work with both candidates in Connecticut over the home stretch of this election so that no matter what happens on November 6th, the new US Senator from Connecticut lends their voice to those supporting continued American leadership in this crucial endeavor.
