It seems like you can’t go anywhere these days without encountering a constant barrage of political division. It’s everywhere: the radio, the TV, overheard conversations in your local coffee shop, talks over dinner with friends and family. And Austin, Texas is no different from anywhere else.
But this past Saturday, people from all walks of life came together at the beautiful facilities of Texas Hillel, just off the sprawling campus of the University of Texas, to talk about, learn and equip themselves for the one fight that transcends political boundaries: the fight against extreme poverty. The event, Saving the World 101, was hosted by the Austin chapter of ONE, and featured CTC International, the Thirst Project, Oxfam Action Corps, the Whole Planet Foundation, Results, and others.
Activists enjoyed pizza and coffee, and took in a wealth of information from all the partnering organizations on how to bring about sustainable change and speak up for those without a voice of their own. Whether it was filling out ONE Vote postcards, learning how to make their voices heard by our elected officials, or perusing some beautiful handmade goods that support holistic development, everyone left the amazing event ready to not just talk about social justice, but to go out and enact the change they want to see.
A big thanks to all the volunteers that made the event possible!

Guests had the opportunity to learn about subjects ranging from Fair Trade practices to clean water to advocating before members of Congress.
