The recent 2012 Ashden Conference on Sustainable Solution for Better Lives had a focus on energy solutions and was chaired by Richenda Van Leeuwen, executive director of Energy and Climate at the United Nations Foundation. Ms. Van Leeuwen is an international energy expert with more than 20 years of experience and has a particular focus on energy access for poverty alleviation. I sat down with her to talk about the importance of energy access and the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.
In the first of two short videos, Richenda and I discuss the importance of energy access and why action is needed now in the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All to address the energy poverty challenge.
In tomorrow’s video Richenda will discuss how the private sector, governments and civil society can help to tackle energy poverty.
