Des Moines ONE members were in full bloom this past Saturday as they hosted a booth to promote our new agriculture campaign, THRIVE, during opening weekend of the Downtown Farmers Market. The booth was full all morning with people learning about the importance of investing in sustainable agriculture programs as one of the best ways to help lift the world’s poorest people out of extreme poverty.
VIDEO: A recap of the day’s events
We asked everyone who stopped by to use their voice and take action by writing a postcard to the President as well as signing our petition to the G8 asking them to “Sow the Seeds of Change.” Bold commitments to agriculture and nutrition programs at the G8 summit in a couple weeks could help ensure 50 million people escape extreme poverty and 15 million children are no longer chronically malnourished!
Hundreds decided took action, even children who wrote custom postcards to the President!
Many also took a packet of seeds home as a part of THRIVE’s Send ONE, Sow ONE campaign, where members show support for agricultural development by sowing a seed at home. We look forward to seeing pictures of these sprouting plants on our Facebook Page!
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped and all the people who used their voice! For more photos, go to ONE: Midwest’s Facebook page.
