Last week, nearly 150 ONE super-members were in Washington, D.C., for ONE’s 2012 Power Summit, a four-day advocacy extravaganza.
I think I speak for more than 150 ONE volunteers and the entire ONE staff when I say that we’re as energized as ever after the final event of the 2012 ONE Power Summit. ONE members from around the country spent last weekend in D.C. learning about ONE’s goals and priorities, our new campaigns like Thrive and the Beginning of the End of AIDS, and much more.
Our volunteers this weekend came from all walks of life, 37 states and 129 Congressional Districts, but had one thing in common: they weren’t here to lobby on their own behalf, but on behalf of the world’s poor. Like good activists do, we had to share what we learned and communicate it back to those that appropriate funds to lifesaving programs like PEPFAR and Feed the Future.
So on Tuesday, April 17th, we suited up (literally) and stormed Capitol Hill. The result? We conducted 203 meetings with members of Congress and their staff — we covered 76 percent of the US Senate and 28 percent of the US House — an impressive number by any standard! The pictures certainly speak louder than words — but leave us a comment below and let us know the last time you met with your member of Congress and what they said about our issues!
