At ONE, we rarely call out for any accolades or honors. The honor lies in doing our work in helping against fighting poverty and disease. It’s also an honor to work with our members and advocates and to reach out to world leaders. And it’s an honor to read our Facebook comments or get tweets from members.
But OK, this time, we’d really like your help with an honor.
Mashable is accepting nominations this month for their 5th Annual Mashable Awards and we’d like to be nominated in the Must-Follow Non-Profit on Social Media category. If you have two seconds, you can simply nominate for us by clicking the button below:
Saying anything is a “must” is pretty audacious. “Musts,” in my opinion, are usually food, water, shelter, safety and sleep. But, when I look at nonprofits that I follow on Twitter or Facebook, they’re groups that have audacious goals, and fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease is certainly audacious enough. It may be tough to look people in the eye and say we can wipe out extreme poverty in our lifetime, but we do it every day.
We use our social media voice to help a lot of other folks as well, including our partners and fellow social network friends. When we see a good message from a group like CARE or the World Food Programme, we jump at the chance to share it. We know that being a good steward isn’t just telling people what we do, but sharing and responding to what others say as well.
We especially love communicating directly with you. You’ll know that if you’ve tweeted at us or left us a comment on Facebook or the ONE Blog, we often reply. In fact, we jump at the chance to carry on a conversation. We don’t think of Facebook as a place to just tell you what we’re doing, we also love to hear from you.
And we love it when you share our actions, whether by taking part in our recent Tweet at the White House action, participating in ONE Act a Week, or sharing our latest “The F-Word” video. Our interactions with you really get the word out there — so much so that when we were name dropped by the Vice President of the United States last week, we instantly looked to our members to help to create the buzz.
All this is to say that we hope to get your nomination over the next 16 days — and that you’ll continue to get the word out by asking a friend or social network fan to nominate us as well. It’s an honor to talk with you every day, and we’re hoping Mashable’s award will reflect that. Thanks in advance for the nomination.
