New Miss Universe hails from Angola, Africa

Please welcome Jenna Carter to the ONE Blog. She is the new media team’s new intern and we’re excited to have her on board.

Congratulations to Angola’s Leila Lopes, this year’s newly crowned Miss Universe. The first African woman to win in 12 years, Lopes was selected over 88 other competitors from around the world for her dedication to help her country escape its history of war.

A champion of HIV/AIDS prevention, she declared her mission to help alleviate Angola’s children and elderly from poverty and announced that with her new title, she hopes to accomplish much more while working with charitable partners like the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases, YouthAIDS and God’s Love We Deliver.
