Please join us for a very important conference call on the Horn of Africa with Cindy McCain, NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo and other guest speakers this Thursday at 12 p.m. EDT. Our call, in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and USAID, will answer your questions about the famine and update you with the latest news and stories from the ground.
Mrs. McCain and Dikembe will be dialing in from Nairobi, Kenya. For the past few days, they have been touring Dadaab, a camp with more than 160,000 refugees, and other sites in Kenya and Somalia.
Mrs. McCain, wife of Arizona Senator John McCain, is an active philanthropist and longtime ONE supporter. She is one of the founding members of the Eastern Congo Initiative, which works to ease the suffering of the Congolese people. And last year, she helped us raise awareness for Women ONE2ONE, our campaign to empower women in Africa, and traveled to Rwanda with ONE on a listening and learning trip.
Dikembe is a global ambassador for the NBA Community and Player Programs and founded the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, an organization that helps fight poverty in the Congo. Like Mrs. McCain, he is an active ONE member and helped us to highlight the importance of vaccines at an event on the Hill last year.
We hope you can join us for this exclusive ONE event with GAIN and USAID. More than 12 million people are currently in desperate need of food, water and basic sanitation, and are counting on you to lift up your voice on their behalf. Use this call as an opportunity to get a better sense of what’s happening in the region today and learn how you can help.
