ONE is hitting the campaign trail to find out where candidates stand on extreme poverty. Stay tuned for more updates like these from our field team and organizers on the road.
Yesterday in Charles Town, West Virginia, I went with some ONE members to attend a rally with U.S. Senate candidate John Raese, to let him know about our efforts with ONE to help rally Americans in the fight against hunger, HIV/AIDS and malaria in the poorest parts of Africa.
I set out to spread the world about how recent U.S. efforts are now saving millions of lives, and truly making a difference in the world — just like Bill Gates said the other day at the Living Proof Project presentation with ONE. I went out yesterday because ONE is something that I strongly believe in, and I wanted to make sure that our nation does all it can to save lives in the poorest places on earth, and build a safer world for us at home and abroad.
However, when we were walking down the street, along came Sen. John McCain with John Raese! Sen. McCain spotted us, and immediately extended his hands out to us, pulled us close to him and stated in front of the crowd that ONE is one of his favorite organizations! He went on to tell John Raese how we aim to help save lives around the world and we talked about how we have over 5,000 ONE members in West Virginia who want our elected leaders to do all they can to help fight extreme poverty and global disease in Africa! Sen. McCain took time to pose for a picture with us, and John Raese even put on a ONE band, too!
It really was a proud moment for me as a ONE member, and I want to make sure that no matter who wins next week, the next senator from West Virginia will help continue America’s heroic and historic efforts to save lives in the poorest nations on earth!
