ONE calls on students to join Youth Ambassador 2015 programme

Anti-poverty organisation The ONE Campaign is asking students with an interest in international development and global justice to apply for their next Youth Ambassador programme.

The 2015 programme – which lasts a year – sees young people from around the country work on a local, national and international level to lobby political representatives about the positives of overseas aid and development.

This year’s programme will focus on influencing politicians around key moments, including the May General Election, the United Nations General Assembly and global summits like the G7.

ONE ran the UK Youth Ambassador programme for the first time this year, as part of a Europe-wide campaign to influence MEPs to sign a pledge in support of helping the world’s poorest countries.

25 young people from around the UK joined over 100 others from across the continent to successfully convince more than half of current MEPs to publicly support the pledge.

The 2014 Youth Ambassadors from the UK travelled across the country, meeting with MEPs, MPs and even visited the European Parliament in Brussels for a huge ‘lobby day’ of meetings with politicians.

Saira O’Mallie, UK Campaigns Manger at ONE, said: “The Youth Ambassador programme is something spectacular to be part of. This year’s programme saw students and young people hold government ministers to account on what the UK can do for the world’s poorest countries.

“2015 is an even more exciting – and important – year. With several major global summits taking place, it’s now or never. If you want to be a part of influencing those decisions for the better, please apply to be a Youth Ambassador.”

Applications for the 2015 Youth Ambassador programme are open from Friday, November 7 and close Monday, November 24. To find out more about applying, please visit https://www.one.org/get-involved/become-a-youth-ambassador/.
