Last month we did something we’ve never done before. We asked ONE members to design a new T-shirt. At the time, we had no idea what to expect, but your response was nothing short of staggering.
ONE members from around the globe submitted more than 500 designs, our expert judges selected 3 finalists and more than 58,000 of you voted for your favourite. And now, we have a winner in ONE’s Next Top T-shirt challenge.
The winning T-shirt design, seen below, came from Valerie Strecker of Slidell, Louisiana, USA and it’s available for pre-order in black and white, and in both men’s and women’s styles from the ONE Store.
As Chalya Shagaya said in the email kicking off this contest, “What we wear says a lot about who we are…The right design has the power to go even further, and spark a global conversation. It starts with “I love your shirt, what does it mean?” and ends with greater awareness of the role we can all play in ending poverty and disease in some of the most vulnerable places on earth.”
Hopefully this T-shirt, and all the other great stuff available in the ONE Store, can play a small role in starting that conversation. Because we know the power of your voice in the fight against global poverty, and now we also know the power of your creativity.
A big thank you to everyone who submitted a design. We’re all inspired by your talent and commitment. Also, to our judges who had the very difficult task of choosing our two runners-up: Alex Robbins and Danny Hass.
The design is being printed right now on our new, made in Uganda, 100% organic, fair-traded cotton T-shirts and they’ll be ready to ship in just over a week. The shirts come in black and white, and in both men’s and women’s styles and they make great gifts. Don’t wait, get yours today.

Every one of you contributing to this cause is doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work people. You guys are angels.
We need to eliminate the gap between the rich and the poor on a global scale.

I am indeed very proud of your commitment towards our objective of bridging the gap between the rich and poor. I am equally impressed by the new T shirt. This would create more awareness for this just cause.

Generalizing Africa is not a good idea, because it is not all the African countries that are poor. Some of other countries are way poorer than over there. For example Haiti is in the American continent. I believe that it is time for One international to start thinking about conducting some action requesting the international community to stop it occupation of the country. As the second independant country of the continent Haiti does not deserve this tretment. If we consider the conditions in which the United Nation i9nterverns, Haiti did not show any of these conditions. This country is too poor for foreigners to take avantage of it. I challenge the One international organization to take action and help in forcing MINISTATH to get out of the cou ntry as soon as possible

Glad to hear someone mentioning ‘Haiti’. Country and it’s people have been suffering for so long…..it’s like the forgotten country. It is so close and yet so far. No one who has visited Haiti can understand how this can be happening.
It’s time they get help. I would love to see One.Org get involved in helping ‘HAITI’ . They need any help they can get. We need to make this right ! It is so sad not to hear the United Nations or other organizations wanting to help them. Well……here’s One.Org’s opportunity to stretch and reach over to the other side of the map.
20/11/2009 at 11:13 pm
I thought ONE.org was supposed to highlight the plight of all suffering people on the planet not just Africans. I agree with Dude ”why sterotype Africa’?! I didn’t vote any of the African designs because I feel there really are poor people suffering on every continent, some far worse than most Africans. That said, how do those of us in Nigeria get the shirts?

21/11/2009 at 10:57 am
Its an ok idea, but I don’t understand why the main focus is Africa? I thought ONE stood for global poverty? Take a look in your own neighborhood and you will find poverty. I will continue to support ONE by wearing my old ONE Tee. I will not wear this one,I will wait for the next new design. The T shirt is supposed to be unique, its supposed to get people to ask questions about it. I get asked about my ONE shirt all the time and it sparks the best conversations and sometimes even motivates people. This shirt just screams “Africa is poor and starving” No one is going to ask any questions because there is no need. Sad.

I must agree with Jean-let’s do something that will include other poor countries in the world. Africa may be the poorest continent, but there are others as well. Thta;s why I didn’t vote for the AFRICAN DESIGNS-THE POOR ARE EVERYWHERE.
