Stand Up Against Poverty
Today is the global day of action against extreme poverty, and around the world millions of people will be literally standing up as a demonstration of their commitment in the fight against extreme poverty. It’s the easiest of actions, but when 116 million of us do it together like last year, it’s a profound statement against extreme poverty.
ONE members take part every year, and this year we’re going a step further asking you not only to stand up, but to shout out and encourage your friends to do the same. Once you stand up, just update your Twitter and/or Facebook status to spread the word.
On Twitter just tweet:

On Facebook, first you’ll need to become a fan of ONE.
Then post your status as:
I’m standing up to end poverty today with @ONE. Please post this as your status and join me.
If you don’t have a twitter or facebook account don’t worry, just visit the Stand Up website and show your support.
The last 2 years we’ve set a new world record, and if everyone takes part and spreads the world, we may very well go down the pages of Guinness again this year. So start right now. Stand up.

It’s easy to type “I’m standing”. But it is time to do. Why has the President of the United States and other leaders of the ‘free world’ cut out aid to my country of Honduras, ONE of the poorest in the western hemisphere? When will they acknowledge the truth that Honduras has the right to rule itself according to our Constitution. Our Constitution required the removal of ex-President Manuel Zelaya. When will they acknowledge that the man that ‘removed’ $40 million dollars US in one day from the Treasury of Honduras was only desirous of lining his pockets, not in helping us.
And it is easy to ask some amorphous entity such as ‘the government’ to help poverty. The blessing and the joy comes when you are actively doing something to help. Instead of spending your money to take a ‘vacation’ at a resort this year, come join ONE of the worthy organizations here that are truly trying to help give the people of Central America more than a bowl of rice.

I came from Somalia one of the poorest country in the world because of the untirepted civil war more than ONE Million Somalin they are refugi in there on contry with no food no shelter no watter.The world leders or media the arre tooking about the war but not how to feed those innocent civilian .My people they the death is comming for them slowly weitting day by day you will have tommorow but that tommorow never is ther for them.

I stood up in solidarity with the hungry people of my beloved country of Kenya (10 millions).
I stood up for the poor who worked so hard on their farms,but draught could not let them harvest.
I stood up for me…. All my trees (10 000) planted for the last 10 years while trying to increase tree cover dried up due draught…..largely caused by emissions from heavy industries of the west.
It may not be monetary aid needed but a conscious will to improve on indusrial emmissions, fair trade practices and genuine care for humanity.
Africans work hard! They have commodaties for trade (fetching unfairly low prices in the world market). Big brothers…..Please be fair!!!

In the whole world is the more different among the richs and the poors. People who had said fair they would have organize themselves in their regions and their cities. Indeed, poverty as a strategy built by poweful lobbys is a shame. We have enough poverty due to wars and epidemics. Let’s hope their strategies fall short as we are in for more poverty everywhere due to economic shake downs and manoeuvers.
