The New Zealand – Australia leg of the U2 360° Tour has begun and what a great start! In true ONE fashion, an incredible group of passionate ONE members came out to volunteer in Auckland, and together signed up thousands of others to the fight against extreme poverty.

ONE volunteers at the show in Auckland
The days were long and the weather was unpredictable. I scoffed when someone said to prepare for all four seasons in one day. Alas, the weather would go from rainy and cool to bright, sunny skies in the blink of an eye. Local New Zealanders also were not joking when they said to watch out for the sun. Let’s just say I learned that lesson the hard way…correction, the back of my neck learned that lesson the hard way… and I won’t need to be told twice!
Over the course of the two shows in Auckland, more than 40 dedicated members, many of whom came out for both shows, committed an entire day’s work to volunteer on behalf of ONE. The team came out to Mount Smart Stadium early in the day and spent the afternoon and evening chatting with U2 fans about ONE and our work. Between the shows, our dedicated team of New Zealand ONE’ers signed up almost 5,000 new ONE Members who have committed to doing their part in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease. I am tremendously proud of that number as well as the New Zealand team that made it possible!
My first stop on the U2 360° Tour in New Zealand was an enjoyable one but the most memorable part was the generosity and passion of the New Zealand people. I thank the ONE’ers who came out to volunteer and I look forward to working with all of you again soon.

In a little while it will be 2010-12-01 here in New Zealand. That is world aids day, ur worried about famine and poverty, hiv and aids, here in NZ there is abuse of people every where u turn, the sick, the old, the unemployed, the uninsured after Quakesvilles ground zero – at last report the EQC had paid on 6 of 1200 homes, I said to them if they are Govt workers homes god help u. Yeah I have to make a claim, but after one or two emails my envelopes had my name on em, unlike Kaiapoi that got “dear householder” on theirs.
I woulda bin in Auckland, the Princess Bono met in Chch in 1993 at the Park Royal was my daughter who had been threatened with death by a workmate (male) I am in the other island ! I told her to go to the cops and quit, she did, now we have a parent abusing my 8 year old grand daughter, I can take care of this, but here it took two emails to Welfare b4 I got a response, this is just the start of this, so what’s more important ? I stayed here to take care of my other daughter – Lisa Marie, Diana had a ticket, so why are there so few comments here compared to the USA Mike Moore’s site, cos people don’t think any thing can be achieved ? Cos u feel walked over by abuse at home and work and Govt, by life ?
This world is ONE and I wrote that on my ruler at school in the 70s, so hopefully one idiot can form a new band that makes these “evel” ppl dance to a new tune…. some body just like YOU out there ?
You get the feeing we have been protesting for decades and getting no where ? That’s cos people give up too easy, this problem is Global, I begin my meeting with the police tomorrow, the same ones that didn’t charge the abusive mother of my kids in 1990, nor my grand daughers Nana, think things will be different this time round ? Only if I don’t weaken, sorry i missed u 4 etc, but my kids come b4 me, i retired at 23 so what else was I gonna do – run for prime minister ? na train horses etc, oh me dad had one winner – in reefton, irony in that ? Not in my life, love u all that care ! Not many here tho. Must pass the word !

Hi Maura Thanks for a great opportunity. I enjoyed helping out with adding voices to One. One is such a wonderful opportunity for people like me and many others who stand for the end of poverty to have our voices heard. And a reminder to those to whom you present the petitions, that you aren’t six people with a “good idea” sitting in a room complaining, in fact you represent a groundswell of people from all over the world who want action for the end of extreme poverty – what a fantastic use of the internet. Best wishes for a very successful and enjoyable tour. Diana

Hi Maura, It was an absolute priviledge to join you and the other ONEers from NZ whom are passionate about making change to the lives of millions of people who live in extreme poverty. The ONE organisation made it possible for me (ONE kiwi) to be a part of an incredible part of history where we can all contribute to putting an end to the poverty and injustice.
I will definately grab any more oppportunites to work with you and the ONE volunteers again,
Keep up the awesome work,
