Yvo de Boer petition delivery

Late last week, ONE’s Andreas Hübers delivered 18,667 signatures from ONE members all around the world asking Yvo de Boer, who is hosting the UN’s climate change treaty negotiations, to consider the voice of people already suffering the ill effects of climate change.

In response to our petition, Mr. de Boer said:

‘Only 3,6% of CO2 emissions are from Africa. Those countries contributed the least to climate change – while deforestation adds to more emissions. They are also short of resources to counter droughts or floods. That’s why it is crucial that their interests are being considered in the Copenhagen agreement and that they receive the financial and technological support that is needed.’

Thanks to everyone who signed the petition, and congratulations on helping keep people who are already struggling with the impacts of climate change firmly on the agenda of these negotiations. There’s a long way to go before the we see a new climate agreement signed in Copenhagen later this year, and you can rest assured that we’ll be working hard all along the way to make sure that the treaty includes sufficient funding to help people adapt to climate change.
