Last night, after three years working behind the scenes taking ONE’s message directly to EU policymakers, ONE hosted our very first public campaign event here in Brussels. In the very Belgian setting of a converted chocolate factory – the HUB—and with a diverse crowd of over 70 people representing 22 nationalities, we brought new and existing ONE members together to learn more about our work, and most importantly, to hear how they can get involved.

At a time when Europe’s leaders are in the midst of budget negotiations that will set the EU aid agenda for the next seven years, ONE CEO Michael Elliott, Europe Director Adrian Lovett, and—surprise guest—ONE co-founder Bono, spoke to the enthusiastic crowd about the crucial need for action. After a long day of bilateral meetings in the European Parliament, Commission, and Council, Brussels Director Eloise Todd shared the message reinforced by EU leaders: “They need to hear from you.”
The outcome of the current EU budget negotiations will have huge implications for the world’s poorest people, so our public mobilisation efforts here in Brussels kick off at a critical moment. In the course of our advocacy efforts in Europe, never has there been so much at stake. We’re excited to work with our incredible ONE members and new volunteers that are fired up and ready to use their time, energy, and voices to ensure that funding for life-saving programs is protected.
