Big news from Germany

In 2007, Germany pledged €600 million between 2008 and 2010 for the Global Fund at its own replenishment conference here in Berlin. ONE repeatedly praised Germany for this commitment. So for us it came as a shock when we learned that the Government’s budget proposal for 2010 did not follow through: Global Fund contributions were actually reduced by €58m to €142m in 2010. This would have meant that the host of the last replenishment would be breaking its own promise in a year of the next replenishment – a really bad move.

This Tuesday, the Ministry of Development Cooperation reversed the cuts. The shortfall of 58 million Euros will now come from unspent 2009 money and the “planning reserve” (financial reserves for unexpected expenditures) in the 2010 budget, we and others were told by the Deputy Minister. This money will not be taken away from other budgeted programs as far as we know.

The Financial Times Deutschland on Wednesday reported on the protests against the cuts, using the headline: “Cuts of Anti-Aids-Support Causes Protests” / “Development Ministry back pedals after criticism”. The paper mentions the organization ONE (“who is supported by Rockstar Bono”…) along with our NGO-friends DSW criticizing the Government for breaking its promises.

The word of one politician is not being valid nothing. Today if it does not have a document printed matter, signed and registered nothing one becomes. E, the times, nor thus! We have that joining in them and mainly demanding that promises if fulfill and that the humanitarian aid comes of all the countries, mainly those that had long made bad for the humanity!

Lucia, the german government is a bunch of liars and promise-breakers. Not only on international levels, also within our country they break all they promised before the elections (last year).

Our pension system is going down the drain as well as our health care system, the educating sytem and the social system. Unemployed people are treated here like crap, like prisoners without rights, and the new social laws here even break human rights and our constitutional laws.

So I expected already that the german government breaks the promises for the support of the Global Found and the development aid. Our crappy politicians excuse all with the actual global finance crisis. But they had billions and billions of dollars/Euros for the corrupted banks whose managers still get their high pay and bonifications.

I have joined the left wing party here in order to go aggainst all this promise-breaking and desstruction of the social help system here, but the left wing party are partially almost the same as the other parties. Most of our politicians here seem to live far from reality and are looking how to fill their own pockets and gain more power.

What Germany show on “Deutsche Welle” and other international TV channels of their control is a fake image of our country and government. The truth is very different: Increasing unemployment and poverty, bad nutrition of unemployed and old people etc.

I am so upset here!!! I help daily handicapped and unemployed people ane pensioneers against the law-breaking methods of the german institutions and government. And have been affected by it myself.

We do social and political work, but sometimes you´d like to take more serious and stronger actions here.

(Sorry, I only speak spanish, I hope you understand me).

(eu compreendo bem melhor o espanhol !) Gracias!

Lucia, comprendo muy bem lo que escribes. He vivido muchos años en Peru.

    Muchos saludos a Brazil y a ti!

    Martina

    Martina
