A week ago I wrote about the last thirty years of the fight against extreme poverty. But this year also marks thirty years in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and our latest report shows that global progress is way off track – at this rate we won’t see the beginning of the end of AIDS until 2022.
That’s not for the lack of thousands of activists trying, tirelessly, in the face of prejudice, discrimination, ignorance and often a lack of political will.
We asked some of those activists to record a message for us about how and why they joined the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Here, Michael Cashman MEP speaks powerfully about why he chose not to stay silent and to speak up on behalf of those who could not.
I hope this film inspires you to speak out too.
You can see more films here. On World AIDS Day, Saturday 1 December, we should all pledge to speak out, to sign and share the petition, share one film, tell one friend that the world must get back on track towards the beginning of the end of AIDS: it starts with you.
