Over the course of the last few weeks, as we entered the final lap of the fight to save EU aid, the ONE Brussels team ramped up our public mobilisation efforts, campaigning to ensure that funding for lifesaving development programs is protected in the next EU budget.
Using new research that makes the economic case for EU investments in development, we briefed Ambassadors, advisors, and staff of all the permanent representations here in Brussels; we hosted ONE member meet-ups, lobby trainings, and letter writing parties all over town; we sent hundreds of hand-written letters and thousands of emails to President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy —and even haikus!
And, as of this evening, we will have hand- delivered our Lifesaver petition to all 27 EU member states, ensuring that the message of 160,000 ONE members was taken directly to the European leaders.
In the final hours leading up to the Leaders’ Summit, we have a few more tricks up our sleeves to keep development on the radar. But if you haven’t already, please add your voice to the petition.
