The ONE Campus Challenge
Official Rules and Consumer Disclosure

The ONE Campus Challenge ("OCC") was designed to allow students to use their creativity to spread ONE's message of ending extreme poverty. By participating in the OCC, you agree to the following rules, which must be adhered to in order to be eligible for any and all prizes outlined below.

This contest is sponsored by ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History. 1400 Eye St., NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20005, 202-552-4990 ("ONE"). ONE is solely responsible for the OCC.
Overview
- OCC will begin for all schools in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia at 12:00 am EST on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at which point participants may enter the competition by signing-up on the website. Ten (10) final schools will be selected based on points standing at 12:00 am EST on or around Tuesday, March 3, 2009. ONLY the ten final schools will continue with OCC until a date on or around 12:00 am EST Friday, March 27, 2009.
- The ten (10) final schools will be given a $1,000 budget that they must use to create a school-wide project that calls attention to the ONE Campaign. The final projects will be posted on ONE's website located at www.one.org and will be judged by visitors to the web site in accordance with the criteria set forth below. ONE reserves the right to modify these rules and schedule at any time. The final winner will be announced on or around Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
- Weekly challenges for all schools will begin on or around 12:00 am EST on select Tuesdays throughout OCC and end 12:00 am EST on the following Sunday. Prize(s) above and beyond points awards may be given to winning weekly challenge schools depending on availability (ONE shirts, stickers and other items to help further their ONE group on campus).
- In addition, ONE will invite the ONE Chapter Leaders at the 100 schools with the highest points to come to the Washington, DC area for a summit on student activism, advocacy and the ONE Campaign (the Power 100 Summit). The value of the Summit per student is $1000, including hotel and airfare, but no other costs or expenses.
- Throughout the course of the OCC, ONE sponsors reserve the right to award participants and schools in their effort to further ONE's mission and message. ONE reserves the right to add additional prizes and programming throughout OCC. Participants will be notified of additional prizes and programming at www.one.org/campus.
Eligibility
- In order to submit materials to OCC, you must be 18 years of age or older as of the date of submission; residents of Alabama and Nebraska must be 19 years of age or older and residents of Mississippi must be 21 years of age or older as of the submission date; and you must be currently registered at a college or university accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency contained on the list published by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education pursuant to the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
- Colleges and universities must be located in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
- Directors, officers, and employees of ONE, its parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, distributors, agents, professional advisors, printers, and advertising, promotional and judging agencies and the immediate family members of such directors, officers or employees, and persons living in the same household as such directors, officers or employees (whether related or not) are not eligible.
General Rules
- Every action taken by participants in conjunction with OCC must comply with local, state and federal laws.
- ONE cannot reimburse participants for expenses they incur during OCC.
- ONE is a non-partisan organization and doesn't discriminate across any party lines. ONE does not support or oppose any candidate for public office.
- By signing up for OCC, you are applying to be a ONE member. Participants must be respectful that they are representing ONE during OCC; however, in no event does ONE endorse any participant activities that support or oppose any candidate for public office. Any activities that go against ONE's message or values will constitute forfeiture of membership and will make the participant ineligible for participating in the challenge.
Submissions
- All submissions become the property of ONE and will not be returned to participant. ONE and its designees shall have the perpetual, worldwide right to edit, publish, and use the submission in any way and in any media for trade, advertising, promotional, and/or other purposes as ONE and/or its designees may determine without further consideration, permission, or notification to participants or any third party.
- You represent, warrant and agree that you are the sole creator of your submissions, or, if you are not the sole creator of your submissions, you have the express permission of any person who assisted you in preparing your submissions.
- Your submission must not contain any inappropriate or offensive material, as determined solely by ONE. Any submission, which in the sole opinion of ONE, is deemed inappropriate (e.g., defamation, nudity, pornography, gratuitous violence, inappropriate language, obscene, illegal, racially or morally offensive, etc.) or is inconsistent with the theme or image of the promotion may be rejected and will result in disqualification. Moreover, your submission must comply with all laws, rules, and regulations including, but not limited to, those concerning copyright, plagiarism, trademark, defamation and invasion of privacy. You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless ONE and its affiliates, licensees, successors and assigns from and against any and all liability, losses, costs and expenses (including attorneys' fees) incurred as a result of any submission you submit to ONE in violation of any terms contained in these Official Rules.
- ONE reserves the right to contact participants and request copies of submitted materials.
- The participant must have the legal right to use and transfer to ONE all photos, text and other materials used in the participant's submissions or otherwise in the OCC.
- Photos - All photographs should be submitted on a valid www.flickr.com account. URL for photo submission must then be reported to OCC at www.one.org/campus.
- Photos - All submissions to www.flickr.com have to be labeled with a Creative Commons non-commercial license. Noncommercial means:< You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work - and derivative works based upon it - but for noncommercial purposes only.
- Video/Audio - All video/audio submissions should be uploaded to www.youtube.com using a valid account. URL for video/audio submissions must then be reported to OCC at www.one.org/campus.
- Video/Audio - No video/audio submissions may be uploaded to www.one.org at any time during the challenge.
- Written Materials - A written materials must be submitted following the rules and regulations at www.one.org/campus.
- Written Materials - ONE reserves the right to use any written materials as they see fit once they have been submitted
- Neither ONE, its affiliates nor representatives are responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, or non-delivered submissions; or for interrupted or unavailable satellite, network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website, telephone or other connections, availability or accessibility, or miscommunications, or failed computer, satellite, telephone or cable transmissions, or lines, or technical failure or jumbled, corrupted, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures, or technical errors or difficulties, or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic or network or the incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry or other information or the failure to capture, or loss of, any such information.
Judging and Points
- In choosing the 10 semi-finalists, points will be awarded by ONE at the time of submission based on the attached points schedule, which is subject to change at ONE's discretion.
- ONE reserves the right to change, deduct or eliminate points awarded if submissions are not in line with ONE standards.
- The 10 semi-final projects will be posted on ONE's website located at www.one.org and will be judged by visitors to the web site who have signed up as a participant in the competition. Each visitor will be asked to vote for the project that presents ONE's message in the most creative and effective way.
- The Power 100 will be chosen based on the 100 schools that are in the lead on December 3. The ONE Chapter leaders of those 100 schools will be invited to come to DC for the Power 100 Summit. The value of the Summit per student is $1000, that includes hotel and airfare, both to be chosen and arranged by ONE, but does not include other costs or expenses.
- Any portion of the competition that will need judging will be judged by a ONE panel consisting of Erin Eagan, Maisie Pigeon, Josh Peck and Chandler Smith. The judges are paid employees of the ONE Campaign. They were selected for their impartiality and are not current students. They have experience running issue-based advocacy, student organizing and\or national outreach programs. They will judge the submissions on their creativity, reach, ability to produce effective advocacy, and their potential to succeed.
Disqualification
- ONE reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any participant or school for any reason at any time throughout the challenge, including, but not limited to, disqualifying any participant and/or school where ONE finds a participant to be attempting to tamper with or undermine the submission process, the website, and/or the legitimate operation of the OCC; to violate these rules; or to act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other person.
- ONE can and will, at its sole discretion, disqualify and/or dock points based on any violation of the rules, subjective and concrete.
Release and Limitations of Liability
By participating in the OCC, participants agree that ONE, its affiliates and representatives, and their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, and agents, will have no liability whatsoever for, and shall be held harmless by participants against, any liability for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind to persons, including personal injury or death, or property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the OCC or any OCC-related activity, from acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of the prize or entry, or any claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy, or merchandise delivery. Participants agree that ONE, its affiliates and representatives, and their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, and agents, will not be responsible or liable for any injuries, damages, or losses of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of access to and use of website site www.one.org or any other website operated by ONE or its affiliates, or from downloading from and/or printing material downloaded from said websites. Without limiting the foregoing, everything regarding the OCC, including the website and all prizes, are provided AS IS without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Some jurisdictions may not allow the limitations or exclusions of liability for incidental or consequential damages or exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above limitations or exclusions may not apply.
University Rules
Participants must abide by college and university rules. Participants must abide by all college and university licensing and copyright rules and regulations. Punishment for these violations are the responsibility of each college or university based on their own rules and regulations.
Prizes
- Prizes for OCC will only be awarded to participants of the OCC. The winning school will win an performance by a to be determined national act to be delivered in April 2009. All schools are subject to compliance with these Official Rules. An authorized representative of the winning school will be contacted on or about April 7, 2009. The School must supply all documentation as may be reasonably required by ONE. If the School fails to timely comply with any such requirements of ONE or declines the opportunity to receive the performance, so long as time permits, ONE will award the performance to the School deemed second in the OCC competition, and so on as needed to select the school to receive the performance. Details of the performance, including who it is, date, time and location, will be determined by ONE in its sole discretion.
- In addition to the Grand Prize, ONE will fly a student representative from each of the 100 colleges and/or universities with the highest points based on points standing at 12:00 am EST on or around December 3, 2008 to Washington, DC, for a three-day summit. The summit will take place on or around the first week of February 2009. ONE will pay for Airfare\Bus to the event and Hotel. The 100 colleges and/or universities will be determined solely based on the number of points earned by those institutions during the contest.
- No substitutions; prizes cannot be exchanged for cash or alternate prize except by ONE, which may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the featured prize becomes unavailable.
- The estimated chance of winning will depend on the number of entrants in the challenge. It is estimated that 1000 colleges or universities will participate and the chance of winning the grand prize is 1000-to-1. Except where prohibited by law, participants at the winning school grant to ONE (which grant will be confirmed in writing on request of ONE), its affiliates, retailers, distributors, advertising agencies, suppliers, and those acting pursuant to its authority, the right and permission to print, publish, broadcast, and use, worldwide in any media now known or hereafter developed, including but not limited to the world wide web, at any time or times, each participant's name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, and biographical information for advertising, trade, and promotional purposes (including the announcement of his or her name on television or radio broadcast) without additional consideration, compensation, permission, or notification. The winner's list will be posted on the website at the time of announcement.
