Video Super Challenge Winners: The University of Michigan

February 17th, 2009 at 4:31 pm

The Wolverines womped the competition to win our Video Super Challenge by about a hundred votes. Their video is a good promo that shows the need for OCC on their campus and in general. Check it out:

Congrats, UofM, on your THIRD challenge win of the year! That’s 20,000 points closer to securing your spot in the Top 10.

We’re also giving a 5,000 point runner-up prize to Webster who gave the Wolverines a run for their money, and 1,000 points each to Curry and Missouri State for making our top 4.

Stay tuned for the next Super Challenge, coming out this evening!

I am appalled by the chosen winner for the Super Video Challenge. No one from our college was informed about voting for this year’s video winner. If that were the case, you better know that we would have had many more votes, hands down. I thought this video was going to be judged by the ONE Campaign panel and no one outside of that. If you only knew what time and effort it took to create our video, I think you would have chosen more wisely about who the winner really should have been. If you don’t recall exactly what we did, here’s another Youtube link to refresh your memory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go5nXPSEzzE

(this time I hope you’ll understand and look further before making a decision).

    Thank you.

Hi, I don’t know who left the comment above, but it was definitely not Alex Casperson. She is very involved with one and wouldn’t leave a petty comment on a blog. Let’s just cut out all the negative comments and just appreciate all of the amazing videos that were made. Thank you

    Hey Adriana!

I was really sorry to read your comment on this blog entry – I agree, your video was excellent, I really enjoyed watching it! My understanding of how this challenge worked is that the coordinators at the ONE headquarters watched all of the submissions and voted amongst themselves to narrow it down to 4 videos. If I remember correctly, the way we found out about voting was from the blog entry that announced it. I think it must have been dumb luck for the schools who logged onto the blog and saw the announcement, because I don’t remember an email being sent. In that sense, the videos were reviewed by the ONE Campaign panel but because of the strength of all submissions they wanted the students to decide.

I think its amazing that the submissions were so good they felt the need to do this, every video I watched was unique and effective. This challenge seemed to be a bit more confusing on the determination of winners than most. All of the videos were amazing and I’m sure they will all serve as a great means of getting the word out to students on our campuses. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the exciting submissions for this upcoming challenge!

Adriana, I am so sorry for any confusion about the video challenge voting. Because all 4 top videos were really excellent, and our judging panel was split, we wanted to open it up for voting. We chose the blog as the mechanism for announcing that decision because we wanted to reward those students who were checking in here regularly. We also awarded significant runner-up points to all 4 of the top videos, which we don’t usually do.

If you’d like to discuss this further, please contact me at emily.stivers@one.org. Again, I apologize for any confusion. We honestly weren’t trying to leave anybody out of the process; we figured everyone involved would see the message on the blog.

I just watched the Wilmington College video as posted by Adriana Dorr and was shocked and disturbed by the last photo showing prison bars over the opening of the muslim vail. What does a person’s religion have to do with poverty or the One campaign? I find that very ignorant and misleading. The video should be re-done to take out anti-Islamic propaganda.

  6. Adriana Dorr Says:

    E D,

The bars were there to signify being trapped in poverty. And the vail was meant to represent the oppression of the “less unfortunate” (for lack of better words, trying to be PC here) for not being able to speak out about it. I’m sorry you construed it to be that way and now that I look at it, I can see why you saw it like that.
