Rep. Ron Paul at College of Charleston

Tuesday, November 27th, College of Charleston in Charleston, SC hosted Representative Ron Paul on campus for our Bully Pulpit series. “The Bully Pulpit: Reflections on Presidential Communication” is a series hosted by the College of Charleston and its Department of Communication that welcomes presidential candidates from the two major political parties to the College of Charleston campus to discuss the importance of presidential communication. The video of Dr. Paul can be found at cofc.edu/bullypulpit .
After the event, I met with Dr. Paul to discuss the issues of extreme poverty around the world. I told him about the ONE Campaign and our efforts to end extreme poverty and fight the global AIDS pandemic. He said he supported humanitarian aid if the money were available. Dr. Paul supports ONE in our effort- so add one more presidential candidate to the list!

Ron Paul said he supported foreign aid. I think that is the most powerful testimony ever for the effectiveness of bird-dogging.

Ron Paul visited my school, Dordt College, in Iowa a few days ago on the 11th of December. One of my friends stood up and asked him about his stance on the Millenium Development Goals and why he has not yet gone on the record with the One Campaign regarding his stance. He pretended that he had never heard of the One Campaign or the Millenium Development goals. He went on to say that government’s job is not to take care of people. He gave the example of a child being raised by a parent. Paul said, “The government shouldn’t take care of that child, you should.” I wanted to shout back, “What if a person cant?”
Altogether, I was VERY frustrated with Ron Paul. He was extremely disrespectful to my friend and her question. He completely ignored it, acting in a very condescending way. What makes it worse for me was that he flat out denied ever hearing of the One campaign and the Millenium Development Goals. I like a lot of what this guy says, but there is a lot that I downright detest.
He is DEFINITELY not getting my vote.

What if a person can’t?
There are charitable organizations that would help with that, it is not the role of government to steal money from one group of citizens to give to others. The role of government is to protect Liberty at all costs.
To ask that hypothetical is disingenuous. Do you know specifically of a person in the situation where they can’t take care of their child? If so, are you helping them? There are taxpayers who may not be on government programs, who may actually be worse off than those on government programs/welfare.
You speak of socialism when you speak about the redistribution of wealth. That is not American, no matter how many current Americans have their hands out.

I’ve worked with the grassroots of Paul’s campaign many times and yes, I can confirm he does support the “One” campaign. There are some things more important than politics, helping children is one of those things.

This post has received a number of abusive comments of late. Just to remind everyone that the same rules that apply for commenting on the ONE Blog apply here.

Please keep things civil folks.

I resent your contention that my posts are abusive. They are the truth. Ron Paul does NOT support the ONE campaign and I hope you will correct this soon!
Otherwise, it is this blog that is abusive of the truth. The UN runs under deception.

Hi again Weldon. It is sad, but there are many supporters or Dr. Paul who do not have Paul’s best interest in mind, but instead, just try to push their own beliefs on the coat tails of Dr. Paul’s campaign. This is probably where your abusive comments are coming from. Some of these groups are racist and want to push that angle (Stormfront.org is one), others are very conspiratorial and believe in secret world governments and try to ride the coattails of the campaign to push that paranoia. If you get any comments regarding ‘Millenium Development’, you’ll know it comes from the latter. (InfoWars.com and RonPaulForums.com are the two worst conspiratorial sites that we’ve been trying to disassociate from for a while.)
Paul does support the UN and the One campaign, he wears the white bracelet often. He may not be happy with all that happens in the UN, but he knows that saving children is far more important than partisan politics. We in the States are so wealthy, we have a responsibility to take care of the poor children of the world. If the government would stop all these unnecessary wars, we could pay more to help the poor children of the world. This is exactly what Dr. Paul’s campaign stands for.

AbbaFather you are totally WRONG about this.
You can delete my posts all you want but you’re just fooling yourselves.
This is Ron Paul’s policy on giving money to ANY country…taken from the CFR website.
U.S. Policy toward Africa
Rep. Paul (R-TX) is a critic of U.S. foreign aid. In response to the White House’s 2005 announcement that it would double economic aid to Africa, Paul wrote, “a federal government with nearly $8 trillion in debt has no business giving money to anybody.”
He attributes widespread African poverty to “corruption that actually is fostered by Western aid.”
Paul was one of three representatives to vote against the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act of 2006. He was also the only representative to vote against the Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007.

DID YOU READ THAT? IF NOT I’LL REPEAT:
“Paul wrote, “a federal government with nearly $8 trillion in debt has no business giving money to anybody.”

WELDON YOU are not being civil by posting libelous trash about Ron Paul.
May 30th, 2008 at 2:36 am
Micah you are speaking the truth. Ron Paul does NOT support this program, and doesn’t support anything to do with the UN, INCLUDING MDG.
You said:
“What makes it worse for me was that he flat out denied ever hearing of the One campaign and the Millenium Development Goals.”
Because he did not want to tell you that MDG is mindless UNITED NATIONS trying to tax us into submission.
This website is a bunch of naive children being used by the UN, a totalitarian evil organization.

Can any of you point out to me what part of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the federal U.S. government to redistribute wealth from American taxpayers to various international causes and organizations?
July 8th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
It seems as though we are arguing two different things.
Some are trying to argue whether or not the US government SHOULD give money away to foreign countries in the form of aid.
That is not what I want to discus in this particular place.
The issue that I raised was whether or not Ron Paul supported the One campaign. The picture above confused me because it was taken two weeks before Paul came to my college, Dordt College in Sioux Center Iowa. When he came, he flatly denied ever having heard of the One Campaign.
He is just another politician…
