It's Time to Invest in Agriculture

ONE members ask their senators to make sure the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations fully-funds the president's request for smart, targeted global agricultural investments that will stop hunger in its tracks.

In July 2009, he Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations will make critical decisions on funding for almost of our poverty-fighting priorities. At the same time, Barack Obama and other major world leaders will gather in Rome for the G8 Summit, where they will decide how to respond to sky-rocketing food prices that pushed 100 million more people into poverty, caused widespread hunger, and destabilized countries around the world in 2008. If the Senate steps up and fully funds President Obama's request for $1.36 billion in global agricultural funding, they will generate tremendous pressure on other world leaders to make similar life-saving investments.
