Global Fund in Focus

The Global Fund is one of our most powerful tools in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. In less than a decade, the Global Fund has saved 6.5 million lives and has purchased and distributed:

  • AIDS treatment for 3 million people
  • TB treatment for 7.7 million people
  • 160 million bed nets to protect families from malaria

On October 5, the White House revealed its latest Global Fund pledge: $4 billion over three years. It was definitely a solid increase – especially during these tough times – but the commitment fell short of the amount needed to make sure no child is born with HIV by 2015.

That's not to say we didn't get some of what we asked for (ONE urged $6 billion over three years). For the very first time, the U.S. made a multi-year pledge. They also agreed to work more closely with the Global Fund, especially at the country level.

Our work isn't over. Congress now has the chance to give the Global Fund the support it deserves – and we'll be working hard in the days and months ahead to make sure that happens. So stay tuned to this page for the latest Global Fund news.
