Special Assistant to the Global Policy Director

ONE is a global advocacy and campaigning organization backed by more than 2 million people from around the world dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. ONE has offices in Washington, DC, London, Berlin, Brussels, and Abuja.  This position will be based in ONE's Washington, DC office.

The Special Assistant to the Global Policy Director will be responsible for providing high-level project and research support to the Global Policy Director.  This position will work closely with the Global Policy Director to ensure that cross team policy priorities are addressed, will support timely and efficient decision making, and will lead on cross cutting research and writing needs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure timely and accurate information flow to and from the Global Policy Director
  • Assist in relationship building both internally and externally - represent the Director and team at various meetings and conferences
  • Help evaluate proposals for engagement - tee up decisions as to whether and how the global policy team should engage
  • Conduct research on priority issues identified by the Global Policy Director including engagement on new issue areas for the organization
  • Support Global Policy Director's engagement on cross-organizational priorities including but not limited to: MDG pitches, G8/G20 pitches, the DATA Report, key trips, The ONE Award (Other policy team members may play key roles on some of these issues as well)
  • Coauthor select pieces for publication including blog posts and articles on topics identified in conjunction with the Global Policy Director
  • Help conceptualize and organize agendas for internal and external meetings including global policy meetings and other key priority setting meetings
  • Track, monitor and follow the progress of projects, action items, strategies that stem from the Global Policy Director

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years development policy experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Competent with tracking, coordinating and follow-up of priorities and projects
  • Superb professionalism and diplomacy; ability to interact with high-level individuals internally and externally
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment on a consistent basis
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize a number of projects
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial - and sometimes unpredictable - environment
